Panzertruppe 2010 - German Panzer Forces in the 21st Century The of the German Armed Forces currently undergoes a transformation called "Neues Heer 2010", the "New 2010". The Panzertruppe (armoured corps) of the Bundeswehr (modern German army) is thus in the midst of a tremendous reorganization when compared to the structure during its creation in the mid-1950s, the later Cold War years and even after the German Reunification of the mid-1990s. Aside from the largest force-reduction ever carried out in the past years, the Leopard 2A4 that created the core and backbone of the Panzertruppe in the past thirty years was stricken from active service in late 2008. Thus, today only the Leopard 2A5, 2A6 and 2A6M remain in service.
