The AW-101 Merlin is a medium-heavy multi-role helicopter developed by Agusta Westland (now Leonardo) in collaboration with Westland Helicopters. It was set and developed on the recommendation of both the British Royal Navy and the Italian Navy to replace the now obsolete SH-3D Sea King. Entered service in the early 2000s in addition to the main role of an anti-submarine helicopter thanks to its operational flexibility it is also ideal in its various configurations to carry out missions of transport troops rescue at sea but also of combat S.A.R..
