The F-15 Eagle was set up during the 1970s to equip the U.S. Air Force flight departments with an advanced high-performance fighter. From its aerodynamic cell the all-time F-15E Strike Eagle two-seater fighter-bomber was developed. Designed for ground attack bombing and interdiction missions it entered service in the USAF in the late 1980s. It retains the features of the original F-15 project such as the two tail drifts and the robust mid-wing while adopting the tandem two-seater cabin that can accommodate the Weapons System Officer for route management target tracking and the use of electronic countermeasures.
